Crest for Mu Tau Gamma Fraternity

Well, it seems I have fallen behind posting here for a bit, so time to show some arts! As usual, I've been working on random tokens I/friends use or are in standard currently. Myself and Dr. Jeebus run Worm Harvest, a spell that can make a large number of little worms. In order to keep track of how many are the field, I took one for the team and drew these up.
Next token, I decided to draw a humanoid creature since most of my work shown thus far have been a bit monstrous. That's when I drew up Tart the ooze gal. Made her complexion pink like gum, set her in a nice crystal cavern and slapped her on a token. Since I already had an ooze token I changed the hue on the slime and scenery to match it.
While working on the third token, I went from liking it to really enjoying the end result. The card this token belongs to is Spawnwrithe, an elemental snake mass that creates copies of itself when it deals combat damage to another player.  For a card that can make an army from itself, I figured it was worth making a token instead of buying multiple copies of the card. I used a very cartoony style on this but did a fair amount of work on the coloring/shading on everything. Aside from the art work, I was given a suggestion to expand the frame on the token card. Comparing it to the first couple posted with it, I will change the layout for future works, as well as prior ones eventually.
The most important piece I worked on lately was the logo for MTG Bro Deals. My friend, Dr Jeebus started the site to be similar to a magic fraternity of sorts and needs some designs to promote the site. I created this and now it is spread across the world in sticker form. Its a traditional design with banner and crown. The symbols on the crest are commonly seen on standard crests, though they were paired up with the appropriate ideal each color represents. Overall, this piece came out quite well and is being enjoyed by many people. It's a good feeling.
The only thing left here is the doodle for a morph card sleeve. The morph creature, which I refer to as morphlins, are face down cards that can be flipped over to reveal what was hiding inside. The idea is that a sleeve with an image of this on the back would give you something to see and provide stats such as power and toughness. That's the next little project I have lined up, though I'll have plenty of more tokens ahead as well. Until then, enjoy my odd whimsy!

New Year! Same Stuff!

Plant Token

Another year has ended and another has begun. 2012 was a good year and 2013 is doing well thus far. My only gripe is I gashed my middle finger on my working hand, so drawing has been hindered slightly. But enough whining, I got stuff to write about.
First, another set of the magical cards has released, which means more new tokens and markers. For the prerelease, I had a couple old tokens I could use, like the ooze and rat, though I got to design a couple new things. One card destroys and leaves a frog lizard in its place so clearly I had to make this token. An iguana and bull frog were used as the main references for this little plump guy. Figured he'd enjoy loafing on a rock because what else would you do if you got turned into this?
The other item I produced was the Cipher marker. The Dimir guild mechanic, cipher, encodes a spell onto a creature. When hearing the word "encode" I knew I wanted some digital design, so why not 8bit style. Just use the guild symbol and make it look like it was downloaded onto the creature. The other creatures I have to finish are a giant beetle and nightmarish bugbat. But, those are for later posts.
The next group of tokens I made were gifts for my friends, Dr Jeebus and Syd Lexia. Jeebus' birthday was in December and I had to think what he could use. I know he has a Karn EDH deck that has the ability to produce goat tokens. And who doesn't like a nice goat? Considering this is a creature of the multiverse, why make it eat a plain old can, when it can eat a Divining Top. I gave it a blood splattered background since these guys are sacrificial lambs, so to speak.
As for Syd, having joined a playgroup with him and Jeebs, I know he has a Nothing but Mythic Mayael deck. In that deck, he tends to pull out Avenger of Zendikar, which just explodes into plant tokens. He'll have some many die representing counters and creatures, I figure this will help all of us.  I am pleased with the design having modeled it after an odd plant, the rafflesia or corpse flower. Kind of cute for a gross, smelly plant. Originally, the color palette was dark and pale to make him look creepier, but I wanted it to feel like a vibrant and exotic plant, so I brightened him up. I'm also happy with the background since it is more detailed than the basic style I usually use. That's all for now, I plan on completely those bugs and other things real soon. As long as I don't wound myself further.

Various Tokens! The Bug, the Bird and the Obscene

 Spawn Token
 Bird Token

Armada Wurm Token

Yet another token dump. I have been sitting on these guys for a bit now and finally finished them up. The spawn token is for Spawning Pits, which is a odd pick for my Garza Zol EDH deck, and since tokens aren't common for them, one needed to be made. The bird was just a leftover doodle for Ravnica tokens, mainly Seller of Songbirds. It is a Titmouse, which was chosen at random not because I'm an immature idiot......And lastly, because I am an immature idiot, the highly suggestive Armada Wurm companion token. So, I got the creepy, the cute and the tactless selection this time. God only knows what I'll make next......

Idols of Ill Fortune! Ravnican Rare Tokens!

A month or so later, I return! I've been a bit sluggish to get my update posted, but finally finished a few pieces. First, I just completed the logo I had been designing for local podcast host and judge, Dr Jeebus. The podcast Jinxed Idols is a live call in show featuring an infamous crew from around the Magic community. Primo stuff! After realizing they did not have a logo and the site that host them, MtGCast needed an image for all their programs, I volunteered my services. The statue is of the golden god of neckbeards, Durdleyotl, the essence of all negative stereotypes Magic players are known for. Aside from making up a false idol, the rest of the design is simple. He's a gross looking guy standing in front of a slab resembling the back of a card.
Second, it wouldn't be a post without a random token insert. I had fun with the last batch I made for the prerelease and decided to make some of the rarer ones. Pack Rat seemed like a card that would need multiple tokens since they can get out of hand quickly. Then, I decided Worldspine Wurm needed tokens since the official ones don't represent the creature correctly. I mainly enjoy drawing wurms (coming soon; awful Armada Wurm)....To each their own.

Ready to Return to Ravnica! Prerelease Accessories!

Meatpie Token

Ooze Token

 Filibuster Counters

With the prerelease happening in about 24 hours, I wanted to have some tokens and counters ready to use with the new cards coming out. I already had a saproling mascot, Shortstack, which is Selesnya style, so I decided to make a Golgari type. My newest design, Meatpie is essentially made from plants and leftover corpses. Quite adorable, I know. I made a token version and a mascot version because I liked him so much. Aside from odd little plants, I also did a quick ooze token. Very simple but I enjoy how his colors came out. Lastly, with the announcement of Filibuster counters, I was requested to have these ready for the weekend. Considering filibusters tend to ramble on and on, I figured a lengthy scroll would work nicely. I have a shorter one to fit on the card and a longer version to take up space and drag things out. Hopefully, I can finished another token or two before the events, such as wurms, assassins and/or knights. But for now, something is better than nothing.
